I’m currently reading…

The Invisible LibraryThe Invisible Library by Genevieve Cogman

This is our book club read and so far I’m finding it quite hard to get into. I’m struggling to remember what I’ve read and getting to grips with the magical language. Under normal circumstances I wouldn’t continue with it but feel I must to be able to contribute to the book club discussion.

The blurb

Irene is a professional spy for the mysterious Library, which harvests fiction from different realities. And along with her enigmatic assistant Kai, she’s posted to an alternative London. Their mission – to retrieve a dangerous book. But when they arrive, it’s already been stolen. London’s underground factions seem prepared to fight to the very death to find her book.

Adding to the jeopardy, this world is chaos-infested – the laws of nature bent to allow supernatural creatures and unpredictable magic. Irene’s new assistant is also hiding secrets of his own.

Soon, she’s up to her eyebrows in a heady mix of danger, clues and secret societies. Yet failure is not an option – the nature of reality itself is at stake.

I recently finished reading

The Quality of SilenceThe Quality of Silence by Rosamund Lipton

Overall, I quite enjoyed ths book, the writing style is very good, the characters are all perfectly well developed but I just had a problem with the believability of the plot. Probably 60% of the book is Yasmin and Ruby’s journey across Alaska but seriously…I don’t want to spoil how it comes about but it was borderline ridiculous although it did make me read…..

The blurb

On 24th November Yasmin and her deaf daughter Ruby arrived in Alaska.
Within hours they were driving alone across a frozen wilderness
Where nothing grows
Where no one lives
Where tears freeze
And night will last for another 54 days.
They are looking for Ruby’s father.
Travelling deeper into a silent land.
They still cannot find him.
And someone is watching them in the dark.

What’s up next?

The Broken Hearts Book ClubThe Broken Hearts Book Club by Lynsey James

I’m taking part in the book tour for Lynsey’s new book in a couple of weeks and this will also be book 6 for Netgalley Challenge. Love the cover!

The blurb

Secrets never stay buried for long…

Lucy Harper has always been good at one thing: running from her past. But when her beloved Nana Lily passes away she has no choice except to return to the one place in the world she most wants to avoid…

Luna Bay hasn’t changed much in the eight years she has spent in London. The little Yorkshire village is still just as beautiful, but the new pub landlord is a gorgeous addition to the scenery!

Lucy only intended to stay for a day, yet when she discovers that Nana Lily has not only left her a cottage but also ‘The Broken Hearts Book Club’, Lucy is intrigued. Her Nana never have mentioned the club and Lucy can’t wait to get started, but walking into her first meeting she is more aware than ever that her past is finally catching up with her.

One way or another, Lucy must finally face the secrets she’s kept buried for so long – or spend the rest of her life on the run…

I think I remember The Invisible Library ramped things up a gear about 50% in. I hope it gets better for you soon.
The Broken Hearts Book Club looks like it’ll be a predictable but fun read. Sort of thing that goes well with a cup of tea 🙂
Thanks for visiting my post and happy reading!

The Invisible Library sounded like such a great read; I’m sorry to hear you are not enjoying it that much. The Broken Hearts Book Club sounds like a quick and entertaining read though.

    Happy reading! Here’s my WWW.

The Invisible Library sounds good, but if it’s like The Banished Craft and overladen with so much it can be a bit much. I hope it turns out for you. It sounds really interesting, so I’ll wait for your final opinion to come through. Happy reading!

Sorry to hear you are struggling with The Invisible Library, like you I think I’d struggle with this and hmm… my feelings on The Quality of Silence were a little harsher than yours but not dissimilar in origin. I do hope the secrets in The Broken Hearts Club are good ones 😉
