Well you can tell the holidays are well and truly over as I only finished one book this week; but it was a book I really enjoyed.
This weekly meme is hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words. It’s open to all to participate. Why not join in and let us know what’s on your reading list this week…
To join in, just answer the following three questions…
• What are you currently reading?
• What did you recently finish reading?
• What do you think you’ll read next?
I’m currently reading…
Pretty Is by Maggie Mitchell
So far, this is good, it has engaged me but I’m yet to experience the wow that I’ve been hearing about. Plenty of time yet though.
The blurb
Lois and Carly-May are just twelve years old when they’re abducted, driven across the country, and imprisoned in a remote, isolated hunting lodge for two months. That summer, under the watchful gaze of their kidnapper, they form a bond which will never be broken . . .
Decades later, both Lois and Carly-May have built new lives and identities for themselves. Lois, a professor of literature, is shaken when an obsessive student reminds her of the man who kidnapped her, a man she saw shoot himself on the porch twenty years before.
Out in LA, Carly-May is drinking too much and watching her beauty-queen looks fade, clinging to the last remnants of a once-promising career as an actress. When she reads a shockingly familiar screenplay, she warily she takes a role she knows is based on events from her own life.
Increasingly haunted by the devastating experience that shaped both their lives, Lois and Carly-May are drawn together again in a world that both echoes and falsifies their beautiful, terrible story.
I recently finished
The Marble Collector by Cecelia Ahern
This is the first Cecelia Ahern I’ve read and I really enjoyed it. Told as two points of view by Sabrina and her father Fergus and a with a dual time line this book could have been subtitled The Mystery of the Missing Marbles.
The blurb
A forgotten childhood. A discovered life.
What if you only had one day to find out who you really were?
When Sabrina Boggs stumbles upon a mysterious collection of her father’s possessions, she discovers a truth where she never knew there was a lie. The familiar man she grew up with is suddenly a stranger to her.
An unexpected break in her monotonous daily routine leaves her just one day to unlock the secrets of the man she thought she knew. A day that unearths memories, stories and people she never knew existed. A day that changes her and those around her forever.
What’s up next?
The Rabbit Back Literature Society by Pasi Ilmari Jääskeläinen
Picked from my TBR jar I have to be honest, I bought this book from a charity shop based on its lovely cover. It’s a book about books which is good but it sounds fantastical which is not me. We’ll see…..
The blurb
Ella Milana is a literature teacher, and the possessor of beautifully curving lips.
But when she starts trying to unearth the truth behind the Society, Ella finds a lot more than she bargained for. What is ‘The Game’? Why are the words inside books rearranging themselves? And what explains the strange disappearance of an author, in a whirlwind of snow?
Have you read any of this week’s choices or share what books you’re reading?
I’m so glad you enjoyed the Cecilia Ahern. I tend to like books with the story told from different points of view and timelines – I’ll put this one on the list.
I love the cover of The Rabbit Back Literature Society, but then I have a serious weakness for blue and white covers 🙂

The actual physical cover of Rabbit Back is sooo much prettier in real life, it’s all sparkly! Shallow I know 🙂

I haven’t read any of your titles but they all sound good. I’ve read other Cecilia Ahern titles in the past and generally enjoyed them. The cover of RBLS is very pretty. My WWW is http://indie-bookworm.blogspot.co.uk/2016/01/www-wednesday-5.html

I bought The Rabbit Back Literature Society for the same reason as you – I spotted the sparkly cover and couldn’t resist! It sounds like it could be a good read though so I hope you enjoy it. Cecelia Ahern is one of my favourite authors so I’m saving The Marble Collector for when I have time to just get engrossed in it. I’m pleased you enjoyed it as much as you did.

I hope so too Cleo. This is one of those books I’ve heard so much raving about but I’ve yet to be really engaged and am feeling a bit meh about it at the moment 😦
